Ellen Knell
 

Dr. Ellen Knell has been a teacher and teacher-trainer for many years and has worked in both EFL and Chinese language education. She lived in Asia for more than ten years and has conducted teacher-training workshops all over the world. Recently, Dr. Knell served as the Chinese immersion coordinator in Utah where she developed curriculum for Chinese immersion students. Now she serves as the BYU Chinese Flagship secondary supervisor for the F-LAN grant. She develops curriculum, conducts training seminars, and oversees assessment and research for secondary students.

Nancy West
 
Ms. Nancy West received her B.S. in Human Development from Brigham Young University and a TESOL certificate. Currently she has enrolled at Utah Valley University in Master of Models of Instruction. She has taught Chinese in high schools and Chinese Duel Immersion. Nancy has been a mentor, teacher trainer, and head teacher. She also worked as a STARTALK teacher trainer, assessment team member, and curriculum specialist. Currently, Nancy serves as the BYU Chinese Flagship secondary assistant supervisor for the F-LAN grant. She develops curriculum, teacher training programs, assessment, and research for secondary Chinese learning.

Arizona State University and Confucius Institute Team
Fannie Tam 
 

Fannie Tam is Assistant Director of the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University. Through ASU’s Confucius Institute, Fannie oversees the partnership with Arizona’s public schools to establish eight Confucius Classrooms and to support Chinese language and culture learning for Arizona K-12 students. Prior to joining Arizona State University, Fannie was a management consultant in intercultural communication and negotiations, and was a faculty of the University of Phoenix’s MBA Program.  She currently serves on the Arizona Department of Education’s Chinese Initiative Advisory Group and is an advisor to the Contemporary Chinese School of Arizona.

Wenjing (Grace ) Xie 
 

Wenjing (Grace ) Xie is a Curriculum Specialist at Arizona state University’s Confucius Institute (CI) . Upon receiving  a master degree from University of Sydney, her teaching career began in 2005. Now, as a curriculum specialist at Confucius Institute, she oversees the curriculum development of eight Confucius Classrooms, works with teachers to develop effective assessment, provides workshops for teachers of Chinese, and constructs resource networks for K-12 teachers.
